And so we begin...

For many years now we have been told that Global Warming is a reality, that the earth is over-polluted by our excessive lifestyles and cannot cope for much longer. Whether or not you choose to believe in this, it cannot be argued against that the consuption power alone of this country is reaching levels of ridicule. We are creating such a huge volume of unecessary packaging and junk that we have very little intention of re-using or recyling, that the landfill will soon be reaching our own gardens. Would you be happy to bury all your unrecylable cartons in your back garden? No? Well then buy them in recyclable plastic bottles instead! When put like this it seems ridiculous that we simply hide from sight the waste that we create. The consumerism we are part of all about the cosmentics of life, as long as we can't see what we dispose of, we are not responsible for it.
I am part of a family who thought they were eco-aware, are diligent recylers and compost what we can, grow our own vegetables and re-use our plastic bags, just like many modern families are currently doing. Content we were doing what we could, we made little effort to research more eco-friendly ways to behave, yet a recent project within sixth form changed my way of thinking. In my Ethics class we met Karen Cannard, author of the popular blog 'The Rubbish Diet' (www.therubbishdiet.co.uk) who gave us much food for thought on the way we consume and deal with household waste. This raised many other issues concerning green-living that many students were ignorant of before, and inspired me to create my own blog to teach people (and myself) how to live in a much more eco-friendly way, and hopefully save energy and money where I can too!
I will endeavour to post a tip every other day on how to live in a more planet-friendly way, all things that the average person can manage, and hopefully will encourage people to change their lifestyle too. I will be doing as many of these things myself as I can also, and will raise awareness in as many ways as I can, in the hope to inspire others too! In this way I hope I can enlighten and encourage people to make a change to the way we are living for the better.
Yours, Ella x
